ZI ALIKHAN WILL DIRECT FRANCES YA-CHU COWHIG’S MURDER MYSTERY OFF-BROADWAY.
Casting is complete for Classic Stage Company’s upcoming production of Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig’s Snow in Midsummer, which will play the Off-Broadway venue May 19-July 9 with an official opening June 8.
Directed by Zi Alikhan, the cast will feature Tommy Bo (Boogie), Wai Ching Ho (Turning Red), Paul Juhn (NAATCO’s Henry VI), Kenneth Lee (The Machine), Julian Leong (Here Lies Love), Dorcas Leung (Hamilton), Teresa Avia Lim (Junk), Fin Moulding (Miss Saigon), Alex Vinh (Kimberly Akimbo), and John Yi (Soft Power).
Adapted from the Chinese drama The Injustice to Dou Yi That Moved Heaven and Earth by Guan Hanqing, Snow in Midsummer concerns a wealthy businesswoman who takes ownership of a factory in a remote town and learns of a curse placed on the town by a woman executed for a crime she did not commit.
The production will also have scenic design by dots, costume design by Johanna Pan, lighting design by Jeanette Yew, sound design by Fan Zhang, hair and makeup design by Brittany Hartman, movement direction by Sunny Hitt, fight and intimacy direction by Judi Lewis Ockler, prop supervision by Caitlin Murphy, and casting by The Telsey Office’s Karyn Casl.
Jonathan Castanien is the production stage manager, and Fatimah Amill is the assistant stage manager.
Snow in Midsummer was first presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company in February 2017. The U.S. premiere was produced by Oregon Shakespeare Festival in August 2018.
